Wyclef Jean has been a dynamo in his support for earthquake relief in his home country of Haiti. He appeared on both MTV's "Hope for Haiti Now" telethon last month and BET's "SOS Saving Ourselves: Help For Haiti" on Friday night (February 5) and, of course, has raised millions of dollars through his Yele Haiti foundation. On Friday night, he brought out Haitian rappers during his performances, and backstage, he introduced one of them, whose group lost a member in the earthquake. "Tonight is a big thing," he said. "This is my man Izolan from a crew called Barikad Crew. They lost the youngest member of the group [Young Cliff] in the quake, so the good thing is they got a chance to come out here tonight along with another group called RockFam. And for the first time, I think the world has noticed guys rapping in Creole besides myself, which is a great thing. No matter what's going on in the country, we as the youth are going to rebuild the country." While the groups may have been relatively unknown in the U.S. before Friday night's appearance, Wyclef has made sure that their names, and their country's need for assistance, has reached millions.
